Week 66 (6/14 - 6/20) Covid-19 Report has two parts. The first has to do with the fact that the Delta Variant is now a Variant of Concern. This means that it will be tabulated on the Texas DSHS Variant Table. The second is the latest update for vaccination rates which picked up in 4 out of 5 regions of the state.
Below, are this past week's Variants whose tracking going back to January, 2021. As reported before, these results take six weeks to obtain; similarly, samples taken from cases over the last seven days will be available in Week 73. They are used to show the distribution of cases changes between variants as a function of time. Just as the UK's Covid-19 is now spread by a surge in Delta, epidemiologists are watching U.S. data.
As shown below, the Gulf Coast has 14 of 25 total Delta Variant Cases. These came from TSA Q (includes Harris County) and R (includes Galveston County). The balance comes from TSA E (Tarrant/Dallas Counties), TSA P (Travis County), and TSA B (Lubbock). This is the first report and only a snapshot. Future weeks will give a more complete picture of the data. Stay tuned.
